468129 2006-07-03 01:17:00 Hi,

Does anybody know if you can keep the free modem if you quit xtra broadband after one month? I'm on the GO plan.

Thankyou,
Michael

468130 2006-07-03 01:22:00 Yeah you can keep it, but then it ain't free - they'll charge you the 100 bucks for terminating the 1 year contract. Greg (193)
468131 2006-07-03 08:06:00 But I'm not in a 1-year contract. I'm in an open contract. Michael8 (7034)
468132 2006-07-03 12:20:00 Well your question answered itself. If they've given it to you free, and without a contract, well free means free right. Greg (193)
468133 2006-07-03 12:29:00 Hang on... so this means that the modem that they give us for one-month broadband testout - we get to keep it after the testing period? Doesn't sound too logical nor profitable to me.

Cheers :)

468135 2006-07-03 12:49:00 I haven't read the fine print, but can make the obvious guess.
It's called Marketing, James.

They're so sure you won't want to go back to Dialup after that month of speed that they expect you won't want to give the modem back.
(But I could be wrong, of course)

468136 2006-07-04 03:17:00 If you call that hunk of junk they give you a modem, actually they don't really give you broadband either

But yes u can definately keep it however most people if not all people that get one are on a contract which is about $99? to cancel.

Cheers :)Very profitable. Even if you leave Xtra, chances are you will use the modem somewhere in this country, and that means somehow somewhere that telecom will be paid for the use of their lines. While they may retail at $100ish, telecom pay a lot less, hence they are starting to show up in junk bins all over the country.

468138 2006-07-04 05:09:00 Any ideas how many times can I keep on trying the 30-day broadband? :D

->quarry, I guess I need to scrutinise every single inch on that broadband pamphlet when I get it again.

Cheers :)
