468727 2006-07-05 03:26:00 Turned on my pc, and got a message:

Windows could not start because the file: \windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt.
You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom.
Select 'r''at the first screen to start repair.

So I pressed reset. After the first screen, where you have the option of pressing del to enter bios, the pc stops responding to the keyboard, so I am unable to choose any options offered.

I reset with xp disc in the drive, get told that system is booting from cd drive but goes straight to the above message again.
Went to bios and set the cd drive as 1st boot device then repeated the proceedure above but keep getting the same same result with the keyboard.

Suugestions received with thanks

468728 2006-07-05 03:39:00 Did you back up your data before this error starts? Do you have an Automated System Recovery floppy disk? I got the same problem but it turns out that my video card is to blame so I change it and my pc back to normal... Mr Wetzyl (362)
