468463 2006-07-04 09:26:00 I have tried to do a comparison of the costs of five Anti-virus programs over a period of three years. By that stage I would envisage that buyers would restart by either purchasing the same program with a complete update or moving to a different one. Though having done my best I cannot be absolutely certain of the costs of the individual programs due to specials etc and invite comment from members who use these programs.

468464 2006-07-04 09:47:00 There are plenty out there that are free or run a OS that doesn't need an AV plod (107)
468465 2006-07-04 18:50:00 If you use A/V the cost is immaterial.

Quality is all that matters.

At the same time, some of us find that AVG keeps us free of Virii,so where do we go from here?

And I install it for people too. But I have compared the two, and for me, I like the security of NOD32. Its very, very good.

Besides this thread is comparing costs between the pay versions, not comparing free ones.

468471 2006-07-05 08:49:00 I did not explain the asterisk showing against some costs. The asterisk means that you can choose to buy two or three years subscription in one hit at the beginning. Therefore, for example to buy BitDefender you need to outlay NZ$114 right at the beginning which covers you for three years. Alternatively for the same program you outlay NZ$90 to cover you for two years. This may, or may not, be a benefit - you make a choice ! I am not aware, in the instances that have asterisks, that you can choose to renew after the first year if you did not purchase the one or two years extension in the first place.

468472 2006-07-05 08:57:00 I wouldnt bother with any of those you listed Misty .

I would use Comodo firewall and AV (Altho the AV may still be buggy), since its pretty new .

Good thing about both of these, is once u activate them (the site sends a code to your email), they're free for life .
