| 468295 | 2006-07-04 03:24:00 | Turned on my pc, and got a message: Windows could not start because the file: \windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt. You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom. Select 'r''at the first screen to start repair. I reset with xp disc in the drive, get told that system is booting from cd drive but goes straight to the above message again. Went to cmos and set the cd drive as 1st boot device but same result. I'm stumped at the mo. Any suggestions please. Thanx in advance... |

| 468296 | 2006-07-04 05:41:00 | You usually need to press a key to make the Windows recovery disks boot. Try pressing space when it displays "Press any key to boot from CD...". | TGoddard (7263) | ||
| 468297 | 2006-07-04 05:51:00 | that error message is often due to corrupt registry. MS site has the full info for the fix ie restoring the registry from the copy in system restore. | tweak'e (69) | ||
| 468298 | 2006-07-04 08:37:00 | As the system suggests, go into recovery console. I have repaired this error several times by using chkdsk. You need to use a switch (can't remember - is it /r to repair?). | johnd (85) | ||
