Are you gaming for long hours? Or just for fun with few hours? Mine is P4 3.0Ghz HT, 200GB HDD(Need more if you want more games installed), 1.5GB DDR RAM, ASUS 9550 Series Video Card, and P4P800 SE MOBO. I normally play it for fun. I think the price have gone down but still can handle games pretty good.

468437 2006-07-04 09:44:00 Personally I would be looking at the following (minimum specs):
Asus A8N or similar mobo
AMD 4400+ CPU
nvidia 7xxx family of grafix card
1 GB RAM

(however might be a bit more than $1500)

468439 2006-07-04 10:22:00 Welcome to PressF1. What games would you like to play?

With a budget of $1500 I have to suspect you live in the USA but I don't know.

Start with which AMD CPU you want then we can give you advise on motherboard and case. An AMD X2 4800+ CPU would use all but about $NZ300 - 400 of your budget if in New Zealand.

Further input needed before you will get the correct advise.

Agreed. I recently bought AMD X2 4400+, A8N-SLI 4 Gigs RAM, 2x200 gig SATA 2 drives and one SLI 7900 graphics card. I put it in a Kandalph case and changed the PSU.

It cost more than NZ$1500 which is why I wonder if the budget is $US.

468441 2006-07-04 10:53:00 I think 1st off, you have to think about the monitor. CRT have optimium resolutions @ different refresh rates, but LCD/TFT monitors have native resoltions where optimium quaulity/pixel draw is governed by the resolution.
Most LCD 17 & 19" are 1280x1024, where 20 and above are 1600x1200+. You will need a grahic card powerful enough to produce fast rate frames.
Once you know which monitor you have, then build the game pc

468442 2006-07-04 21:45:00 these are the games im hoping to be able to play : Unreal Tournament 04, Counter Strike, Half Life 1 & 2. Battlefield 1942. Mainly FPS. The amount will be about a 5 hours in the weekends and maybe 5 hours over the hole week. also i will be playing on LAN. The monitor will be either a 17'' or 19'' LCD. Please note i am living in NZ so my budget is kinda low since i dont have pockets full of cash. thomas09 (10276)

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2 . 2GHz Socket 939
DFI Infinity NF4 SLI, nForce4 SLI ATX
1GB DDR400 SDRAM
Seagate 300GB SATA
LiteOn Dual-Layer +R/RW R/RW 16X
GeForce 6800 GS PCI-Express
Enermax 485w Noisetaker PSU - This is more important than the case .

Total $1250 approx depending on hunting up good prices via Pricespy - while AVOIDING the dodgy cheapest dealers such as SuperCheap .

But its low end for a gming PC now . On the other hand, the games you've mentioned will do ok with that . . . .
