2006-07-07 01:08:00 | Disclaimer: Just saying it as it happened, not judging the site in general. Ok, I posted a reply to some thread in F1 and then decided to expounde somewhat, add some detail to said reply. When I attemped to submit the new version I was told that some 15 minute limitation on editing posts had expired (they could have told me this when I clicked the edit button to warn me). The same warning said I should contact the adminsitrator if I wanted this looked at and provided a link. Fair enough. So I click the link to the administrator, and nothing happens. I try again, still nothing. Hmm. Rolling with it, I decide to let the webmaster know about the dead link. I look up the list of contacts and find one that says to report dead links to the webmaster, followed by a link. I click on the webmaster link...and nothing happens. Hmm. The link used to report dead links ... is dead... :badpc: on a site devoted to all things computer. Sometimes you have to just /sigh and see the humour in life.

2006-07-07 04:14:00 | This isn't a multimillion dollar commercial site, with full time administrators and webmasters, with a team of programmers. Those links probably don't work because there would be noone to look at anything which was sent. It's a small site, which gets necessary maintenance. It has no full time staff. You would like the 15 minute time limit changed. Tough. When the software was installed, it was set at 15 minutes. I doubt if it will be changed. What would be the point? 15 minutes is long enough to fix the spelling mistakes which suddenly appear when it is posted. Any longer lets people change the question after it's been answered, or change an answer when another answer shows it to be a load of cobblers. ;) If you want changes (or "improvements"), just put them in a normal posting and Bruce will tell you "NO" when he sees it. :D

2006-07-07 04:29:00 | Bah, if your going to have broken "features" then you can expect complaints( Tradef1 is a pervfect example...muhahahahah), and it most certainly isn't the users fault that the forum has poor suport (if it does have poor suport,....I wonder what happened to Mary) | Metla (12) | |
2006-07-07 04:33:00 | If you want changes (or "improvements"), just put them in a normal posting and Bruce will tell you "NO" when he sees it. :D Or he may just smite you for the fun of it  The only trouble with the edit option is that I'm such a crap speller that I can post the post, read the mistakes (despite having a spell checker) and then feel guilty because I can't be stuffed changing the mistakes. If we didn't have the edit option I would have nothing to be guilty about... reminding myself that I'd done my best with limited intellect and one shot at it ;)

2006-07-07 06:18:00 | There is a working "Email Webmaster" link on the bottom of every page on PF1. As already mentioned, you only get 15 mins to edit your post. Works well and they won't be changing this anytime in a hurry. If you missed your window of opportunity, just make a new post with the extra content you wanted to add. :) | Jen (38) | |

2006-07-07 15:58:00 | Just to clarify - What's the difference between Webmaster & the Mods? Or would an email end up in the same place, anyway? I ask because I was confused over that choice recently. A new poster included his email address, ignorant of the spybots/spam activity & the problems it could bring him. By the time I noticed & posted a warning, his 15 minutes were long gone. It was the wee small hours ( hence no Mods on duty ) but as we know, the bots never sleep. I guessed the Webmaster might be an IDG nine-to-five person..? So I used the Report Bad Post button - even though it wasn't a bad post & the instructions are very stern about that. Result? Jen edited the address out early next morning. But I still don't know whether I did the right thing or not. Some advice, please - in case there's a next time...
