| 469129 | 2006-07-07 12:19:00 | Based on the running process list that you have posted, Annie, I suspect that you must have accidentally deleted explorer.exe!!! To check that if it is true or not, activate Windows Task Manager via the Ctrl + Alt + Del shortcut key. Next, click File, then click "New Task (Run)...". Type in the following command: "C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe" (without the quotation marks) Cheers :) |

| 469130 | 2006-07-07 21:33:00 | Hi Jenae - thanks for your suggestion. Yes, I tried a repair install, fiddling the BIOS and booting from CD, but no progress. James - I think you are on the right track here. I hadn't deleted explorer.exe (or anything.exe for that matter), but explorer won't run, although the file is present in C:\windows, using either the Task Manager or dos. Other executable files in the windows directory such as notepad.exe can be run. I think I may have deleted a file that explorer is in some way dependent on. I will have a look w google to see if I can work out what it might have been. Thanks both of you for the advice |
