470542 2006-07-13 20:51:00 A curious problem. I have a PC (Compaq) running XP SP2 and it has just developed a strange problem. When it goes to screensaver the PC powers down, it doesn't hibernate or anything it just turns off. If you change the screensaver off the PC doesn't do it, the power management is set to 'always on', any ideas???

cheers

470543 2006-07-13 21:30:00 Hello there, what did you mean by "If you change the screensaver off the PC doesn't do it"? Does this mean that you can't turn off the screensaver?

Cheers :)

470544 2006-07-14 00:51:00 Sorry, terrible English. I meant that if the screensaver is turned off it wont do it t all, it only seems to do it when the screensaver starts. borax (7078)
470545 2006-07-14 01:20:00 Is it a screensaver you've downloaded from somewhere, or a native Windows one? Greg (193)
470546 2006-07-14 01:22:00 Is it just one particular screensaver that shuts down the PC or is it all of them, including the Windows screensavers? FoxyMX (5)
470547 2006-07-14 06:33:00 It happens with them all, windows own ones and downloaded ones ??? borax (7078)
470548 2006-07-14 06:43:00 Power management in Windows relies on the hardware, which has various BIOS routines, and some BIOS settings. They don't always work nicely together.

Check the BIOS power management options.

470549 2006-07-23 19:26:00 Could it be possible you have the energy saver feature turned on? With this feature on the monitor will go into stanby .Right click your desktop and go to properties tab. Then click on the screensaver tab. At the bottom you will see a power button. You should see a button saying turn off monitor. It should be set to never. If it is set to anything but this, the monitor will turn off regardless of screensaver. howardepgco (9451)
470550 2006-07-23 21:54:00 Sorry for the late reply! All i did was change the screensavers from one to another and then reverted back to my preferred one and all has come good!!
Computers really have a mind of their own at times!
