470232 2006-07-12 02:27:00 Hi there guys and girls, I have just bought a new Western Digital 160g hard drive. I have tried to install it but to no avail. When I go into the BIOS it shows, but when I boot into windows it says that a second hard drive is installed but it wont show in explorer. I have check device manager and there it is. Stupid stupid computer. Is there another way of confirming that there is no problem with the hard drive.

Oh also I have tried changing the jumper settings on the drive as well. No good.

Let me know your thoughts

Cheers

Tim

Start Menu -> Run -> diskmgmt.msc and see what is showing up there.

470235 2006-07-12 03:05:00 Windows can't use it until it has been partitioned and formatted. It needs to have a filesytem which Windows can use.

That's why it doesn't show in Explorer.

The Disk Management software will do those operations if you ask it nicely. ;)
