470198 2006-07-12 02:08:00 Hi
I have 3 partition. C,D,E. on C drive i have winxp pro +sp2 and on d i have another setup of winxp. now i want to put server 2003 on D:\. i was thinking to choose the upgrade option while setting up. However iam not sure whether my other operating system on c:\ will be still accisible from the start menu.

Btw did Win 2003 server come after Windows XP?.

470199 2006-07-12 10:00:00 I don't think there is an upgrade path from XP (a desktop OS) to 2003 (a server OS).

Just install and modfify the boot.ini file if necessary.

470200 2006-07-12 13:06:00 What i installed win2000Pro on D:\ it will obviously mess up the boot menu, XP Pro on c:\ wont be accesible anymore can this be fixed by modifying boot.ini.??? gum digger (6100)

470202 2006-07-13 02:27:00 Will it matter if i have win XP sp2 installed on C:\

Nope, just follow the instructions on the link I gave you and then you will be able to boot into either OS.

No, wrong ones, the files will be at C:\ you may need to turn on hidden files to see them.

but the previous instructions work, I have done it many times myself.

470206 2006-07-13 05:24:00 My bad, try unticking hide protected operating system files, 2 items down on the same folder options list snoopy (74)
470207 2006-07-13 05:37:00 Yep that did the trick. Now i would like to revise with i know.

1) Copy NTLDR & NTDETECT.COM on flash drive ( i dont have a floppy drive)
2) Boot using my bootable win2000 Pro cd,
3) install it on a different partition than xp ( My case its E:\ )
4) Once installed boot into win2000
5) paste the files backed up before ( NTLDR & NTDETECT.COM ) , where? in E:\ or C:\?
