471208 2006-07-15 21:41:00 Hi all.

Well, I've searched, read, taken on board, understood, misunderstood, had a few *** moments.....

...and it's come to this.

If I was to pick one, which should it be?

AVG from Grisoft or Zone Alarm?

Anyone have a view that's more scientific than personal?

I'm not sure what details to supply about my PC that could be useful, it's just a ........ PC!

Running IE 7 Beta, and using Spybot and Adaware. And Norton SystemWorks 2006 until the renewal comes along, then I'm ditching it...(Norton, not the PC!).

Cheers
Tim

471209 2006-07-15 22:04:00 Both as antivirus? AVG can be free. ZA costs. KiwiLinc (6595)
471210 2006-07-15 22:05:00 Its not a choice. AVG is an antivirus program.
Zone Alarm is a firewall.

You need one of each.

471211 2006-07-15 22:05:00 Why can't you just pick... both? Is your computer short of memory or hard disc space?

Cheers :)

471212 2006-07-15 22:15:00 Okay.

Thanks guys. I read somewhere before that there were known problems running them together....whether that person was right or wrong is a moot point. But he/she sure sounded knowledgeable ; )

I'll d/load both and see what happens!

Cheers

471213 2006-07-16 00:08:00 Antivirus and Firewall are two different things that do not and possibly, WILL NOT have conflicts over each other (unless you mean the firewall is stopping the antivirus from downloading updates from the Internet?). On the other hand, either two antivirus on a computer or two firewalls on the same computer will spell trouble.

Any ideas who is that knowledgeable person that you claimed to know who encouraged you not to have AVG and ZA on the same computer (I hope it was not me, :D )?

Cheers :)

They could have been using ZoneAlarm Antivirus in which case yes, there would be problems running the two together. You must not run two anti-virus programs or two firewall programs together, only one of each.

AVG free or Pro and ZoneAlarm free or Pro can be run together.

471216 2006-07-17 03:39:00 I use,
Firewall : Zonealarm (free)
Anti-virus : Avg (free)

With no problems.(When I first got my computer I used Nortons, then I found this site and alot of knowledgeable people said to ditch it and get these instead,I did and its all good, that was like a couple of years ago too). :D
