470698 2006-07-14 05:05:00 What causes intermittent blanking of an LCD screen? Its not often, doesn't stay blank but does do it o occasion.

I suggested updating the graphics driver for a start and ringing the onsite warranty people second as its a new monitor, but just wondering?

470699 2006-07-14 05:29:00 Is it just the backlight failing?
Shine a torch on it when it blanks, if the data is still "just visible" then its certainly the backlight.

470700 2006-07-14 05:56:00 Have you managed to see the screen contents like that, GF? I've got one laptop which does this, and I've never been able to see the contents. It's a transmission, rather than reflective, lighting system. I just move the screen back and forth, and it comes on again. Whether the bending of the wires restarts the inverter or it's just conicidence, I'm never sure. :D Graham L (2)
470701 2006-07-14 06:28:00 At the right angle the data is often "barely visible" apparently with the torch held up very close.

It may depend on the screen construction but it has been shown as a working method to diagnose it by others, on other forums. Of course as my systems never fail, I have not needed to use it....

It better not be, its only 2 weeks old.

He couldn't tell that -- his eyesight isn't good enough, and I can't, I'm in a totally different island to him.

470703 2006-07-15 02:55:00 So a very bright torch and a telescope, perhaps. The earth is flat, isn't it? Graham L (2)

470705 2006-07-15 03:31:00 For God's sake, pctek don't send beetle though.

If it's not broken now, it will be as soon as she gets even close to it.

Even the torch seems to have suffered the beetle phenomena?

But its Napier.

Anyway doesn't matter, he's updated the graphics driver and so far so good, if it occurs again, he can ring the 0800 number for the warranty people. Its onsite.

Although installing that driver turned out to be a major disaster....A looonnggg story...
