471550 2006-07-17 08:04:00 Just plonked a new m/board into my comp, Asus A8N-E, which has Nvidia hardware firewall.

Is there any point in having it running... better than ZA?, or should I just stick to ZA?

(I like the ZA task bar graph for the net)

471551 2006-07-17 08:09:00 uninstal nvidia firewall drivers and turn it off (bios). it causes more problems than what it is worth. tweak'e (69)
471552 2006-07-17 08:10:00 Remove NV firewall completely.

It corrupts downloads and files, and everything else. Ask JJJ.

He had this prob.

471553 2006-07-17 08:28:00 Thanks guys, I haven't even installed it yet... sounds like not a good idea  Shortcircuit (1666)
471554 2006-07-17 08:31:00 Yup. Actually I wouldnt use ZA either.

I gave that and Nortons up, and decided to use Comodo. Pretty new, but it works fine here for me, and its free for life. Once they send u an activation code.

471555 2006-07-17 08:42:00 I might have a look at that Speedy, even though I have no probs with ZA.

Gotta say I'm not too impressed with some of the 'build quality' on the A8N-E board... not so much the board but the crappy case back/connector plate and the cheap metal 'tongues' that hold the usb ports in place... have already got one usb plug munted as the tongue got stuck in the square hole of the plug. B**ch of a thing to get out again.

My A8V was fine.

471556 2006-07-17 08:49:00 lol sounds similar to what I did with this mobo I installed on the other PC.

The metal bit from the LAN was stuck, and I couldnt plug the ethernet cable in. I had to pull it to bits again so I could plug the cable in.

471557 2006-07-17 09:37:00 Yep, one stuffed plug and one unusable usb port... at least it's got about 6 others and I have an (almost) new comp... new m/b meant new vid card (old one was AGP), then found out that 2 year old Coolermaster PSU was only 20 pin, so had to buy a Thermaltake 24pin PSU to go on the new 24 pin M/B. All up about $500 after I'd spent a bit the week before on two new Seagate Sata2 NCQ HDs so I could stick 'em in a Raid0... sigh, now all I have to do is get the usb cordless keyboard going and I'll be happy  Shortcircuit (1666)
471558 2006-07-17 09:49:00 I think this mobo has 10 usb connections onboard .

I was planning on getting this mobo too .

I wouldnt bother with RAID 0, if one dies, so does the other .

I haven't counted all the ports yet . . . was too busy swearing!

The M/b apart from the port problem so far is not bad . . . was a bit concerned about getting another Asus after the last one fried . if you get one resist installing the Asus PC probe . . . you'll never get rid of the tacky tacho screen when you boot up . . . even after you uninstall it .

Raid0 is no prob . . . not worried about losing anything much as all my stuff is on an external HD . Was a bit of a pig to set up under XP though . Once I get the hang of Linux the idea is to drop XP and see how well it runs a 64bit opsys (will wait until my fingernails grow back 1st)
