471441 2006-07-17 03:57:00 Hi,
I need to upgrade my old PC. I need to upgrade the RAM, video card, and hard drive. I am pretty sure about which ram to order but not about the video card. This computer (HP Pavilion 6751) is about 4 years old and I am getting a new one but I will also upgrade this one.

Do you know which video card I need (PCI or AGP?). It says in the tech specs that the current video graphics are "PCI Local Bus". On my actual tower it has a sticker that says "Integrated Intel Direct AGP 3D Graphics". Do you know which video cards are compatible with my computer? It also says in the tech specs: "Video memory: 11mb UMA, not upgradeable".

thanks

471442 2006-07-17 04:04:00 It has an on-board video card ie part of the motherboard and cannot be upgraded :( Shortcircuit (1666)
471443 2006-07-17 04:11:00 Correct Shortcircuit, it only has PCI expansion slots & only takes up to 512Mb RAM. What a bummer for the OP SolMiester (139)
471444 2006-07-17 04:19:00 So I can't install a new graphics card? What if I install a new motherboard? How much would a decent motherboard cost? DarkBlade4 (9892)
471445 2006-07-17 04:29:00 If a new motherboard would fit (and I'm thinking that it won't), also if you're in NZ a decent one with AGP slot for graphics card under $150, one with PCI slot for 'newer' graphics card $150+. I also think you might have problems with your CPU from the HP fitting a new mother board.

A new 'average' PCI graphics card from $90.00 to about $200.00

471446 2006-07-17 04:31:00 Crikey, is that a P2 or P111 cpu? You could get one of these which is older technology than AGP

however, I dont think it would be worth spending $80 on.

best to get mobo/cpu/ram/graphic card combo and replace the entire inside of the pc minus the hard drive.

471447 2006-07-17 05:12:00 Imo, when you are looking at a replacement mobo/cpu/ram/graphic card combo, you might as well go the whole hog and by a complete new pc.

**Oh wait, I see you are getting a new one as well. Mind posting the specs of your new pc? I want to see what you are getting ;)

471448 2006-07-17 06:03:00 I might just upgrade the ram on this PC and use the new computer for games and multimedia.

*Mejobloggs -- My new PC would probably be a Pentium D, 3.0 Ghz, 2GB DDRam, 256mb nVidia/Radeon graphics card, TV Tuner w/ Remote, DVD 16x Burner, Windows Media Centre, 19 inch Flat Panel display. Something along those lines from Dell.

471449 2006-07-17 07:17:00 DarkBlade, I would strongly recommend you wait to buy a Conroe. All other Intel's are obsolete.

Conroe is cheaper, and higher performing.

471450 2006-07-17 08:17:00 Hiya.

I had an old HP I got given beginning of the year.

Same situation as you. Rang HP, they laughed and said "consider it disposable"....

It's now at the tip.

That may not help much, but my 2c worth.

Cheers
Tim
