471346 2006-07-16 09:25:00 Hi

I set Norton Systemworks Disk Doctor to do a complete check of my hard drive on my next reboot of my Compaq Presario 901AP, which it does fine. However, when it then tries to boot into windows proper I get the following error message:
SESSION5_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
and the message:
STOP: 0x00000071 (0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000,0x00000000)

I cannot seem to get it started in Safe Mode either - it hangs at the end of the driver load.

Would appreciate some help!

Michael

471347 2006-07-16 09:45:00 If its a blue screen you're seeing, whats the name of the driver??

Does the bluescreen tell u the name of the file?

Are u using Zonealarm??

It looks like ZA (support.microsoft.com y_admin&tid=74750783-a1aa-4a14-b203-08f0b03fea75&p=1) can cause this BSOD.

471348 2006-07-16 10:44:00 Hi Speedy.

This screen comes up well before Windows loads, let alone Zone Alarm. There is no driver name, the drivers only load if I select Safe Mode and that cans out with the hard drive spinning and nothing.
So i am not sure how Zone Alarm can cause it when the boot process halts and ZA loads after the GUI comes up.

Would welcome some more suggestions - like what is STOP 0x00000071 trying to tell me?

471350 2006-07-16 10:54:00 Well if u have ZA it could be conflicting with Nortons.

Or it could be one of these (search.microsoft.com)

471351 2006-07-16 21:20:00 Typically there is a problem with a device driver or with a missing or corrupt system file used during Windows startup.

Do a systems restore to before you used the Nortons rubbish.

471352 2006-07-16 21:28:00 As you cannot access the normal Safe Mode either to do a System Restore, have a look at this MS Help and Support (support.microsoft.com) article on how to launch the Restore tool from the command prompt. Jen (38)
471353 2006-07-17 05:30:00 IF you have the Windows CD, you could boot from that and run the "Repair" function.

I don't think a software conflict is your problem. System Works and Zone Alarm cohabit quite happily on my PC.

471354 2006-07-17 08:37:00 Thank you everyone for your help. Tonight the system spontaneously started up and runnning fine (after I had hauled out all the System Restore CDs that came with the computer).
I must agree with Vince hoiwever, Norton and ZA have coexisted on this system for 3 years without clashing so I think it might have been a recalcitrant dll. :)
