472201 2006-07-19 22:36:00 Reinstalled OS for a mate the other day whose system was so full of nasties that was beyond recovery. Managed to slave drive to my system to get data out, but...

After formatting and reinstalling XP Home, plus adding all relevent updates,it comes up with at the boot screen with which OS do I want to boot to.

Microsoft Windows XP Home
Microsoft Windows XP Home

As above.

Dont know why, as I did a proper format (not quick one). Anyone have any advice as how to delete the wrong one (or should that be the RIGHT one) from the boot. :help:

Under System Properties> Start up and Recovery> Edit....

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

Under System Properties> Start up and Recovery> Edit....

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

as it says that default (which I hope would be the fresh installation of windows ) is partition (1) you should be able to just remove the other entry "partition(2)" but it might pay to do some checking wether the default is correct

472204 2006-07-19 23:40:00 The boot.ini file is indicating that there is 2 partitions with Win Home installed on them, does it boot into Home using partition 1, if so just delete the 2nd line ie. multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn snoopy (74)
