471956 2006-07-19 04:44:00 Can anyone help me?

I have xtra broadband at home which worked fine until Xtra decided to filter port 25. I use a company laptop and now when i take it home I am unable to send email from my standard email package, only receive. i called xtra bu they couldn't help as my company email package is Mozzila thunderbird and xtra don't support it (from a technical support point of view). Anyway, i asked IT at work and they couldn't help me either. i tried changing the outgoing server smtp address to an xtra one but that makes no difference. Does anyone have any ideas??

Cheers

471958 2006-07-19 05:51:00 Are you certain it is Xtra filtering port 25 that is at fault?

What error do you recieve when trying to send?

471959 2006-07-19 06:01:00 It's probably trying to send the mail through the company's mail server. Xtra will not like (or allow) doing that.

Changing the server setting is likely to be the right approach. Might you need to restart the Mozilla client after making the change?

471960 2006-07-19 06:10:00 As well as setting to smtp.xtra.co.nz the port needs to be set to 25
You can't send through smtp.xtra.co.nz unless you have port 25 selected.
If the port is set to something else you may be using SSL at work to get around the port 25 blocking when using a different mail server.

471962 2006-08-02 01:06:00 Yeah, I tried changing server to the xtra one and restarted etc etc but still no good! MMMMMM TD8574 (10775)
471963 2006-08-02 01:13:00 I also had the port set to 25. My secure connections are also set at 'no' TD8574 (10775)
471964 2006-08-02 01:14:00 Thanks all for yor suggestions though!! TD8574 (10775)
471965 2006-08-02 02:18:00 Firstly, it doesn't matter a toss what email client you are using as all have to work with pop3 and smtp protocols.

Tell us, are you modifying the 'work' account or did you create another one? Is the one set up with smtp.xtra marked as the default? What does the error msge say? Err code? Does it say something about relaying?
