472532 2006-07-22 17:53:00 You've lost me here, guys.

Yes, it's obvious more data's stored on a DVD than a CD.

But it's suggested that DVDs shorten download time.
Surely it's the quantity of data which affects that, rather than the medium it's stored on?

So on Dialup, is there really a time difference?
Or have I misunderstood?

472533 2006-07-22 18:08:00 as stated earlier........data doesn't haev 'quality' as such......it's either 'good' data or it's corrupt and unusable.......

a dvd simply holds more data but that data will be of the same 'quality' as the exact same program spread across a number of cd's it's just easier to put it all onto one dvd, and cheaper....

472534 2006-07-22 18:10:00 not sure what you mean 'dvd's shorten download time'........downloading is a process of gettin data from an internet site and dvd's have nothing to do with that at all........if you mean.......installation time.....well I guess it'd take less time to install a prog off one dvd than swapping out several cd's ? drcspy (146)
472535 2006-07-22 19:26:00 Thanks, drcspy.

I guess my question held more guesswork on the comments above than it should.

And installation was what I meant, rather than download..
But you have explained it in a way that makes sense.

Who suggested it would load faster?
The only way it may load a faster is the time saved in not having to change disks so often.

472537 2006-07-22 20:13:00 Thought my last post explained that it was my guesswork that got it wrong, Jack.

Obviously not explained well enough.

So - nobody said it would load faster. Forget I spoke..

472538 2006-07-22 21:11:00 Laura, I know what you're getting at...

drcspy has the gist, and confirmed my belief that the Microsoft quote could possibly have been written better.

Cheers
Tim
