472857 2006-07-22 13:04:00 Why am I getting email the same day someone becomes a member, asking me about stuff I have no idea about? I have to reply to an email adddress. Obviously suspicious. I didnt.

Question is: Do spammers register on PF1 just to get access to email addys?
How can you stop it?

How can you stop it?Allow email from ONLY the moderators (and noone else).
You really only want to be advised of something major coming up (like an imopending ban :p etc) that only the mods can tell you. Other than that, just allow PMs (if you want to talk to other members behind the scenes). These are both settings in the User CP iirc (if I recall correctly)

472860 2006-07-22 13:40:00 Thanx Tazz,
That option was in User CP.
Has now been changed.

472861 2006-07-22 14:06:00 So how many PF1ers actually register to get email reminders whenever there's a new message in a thread?

I never even considered ticking that box when I joined. I have enough "real" email not to want my Inbox cluttered that way.

Sure, if you need to check for an answer to an urgent problem, a temporary arrangement makes sense.
Otherwise, just click the User CP when you login. That shows what you've missed since last time.
And get a life...

472862 2006-07-22 21:47:00 If anyone is being spammed via Private Messages, please forward that PM to the Mods so that we can ban that person.

If you are being spammed via the email facility, could you please copy and paste the email and send it to us via Private Message as well.

You guys don't have to put up with that sort of rubbish being sent from members who are abusing our forum to spam with.

It makes no difference to the problem that *sparky* was experiencing. Selecting to display your email addy so that you can receive email from other members and subscribing to threads via email are two completely different things.

Also you may not be aware, that once you log off the forum you will only received a single further email notifying you of an update to that subscribed thread. If you wish to receive further notifications you must relogin back onto PF1.

472864 2006-07-23 02:51:00 Thanks for the explanation, Jen. Laura (43)
472865 2006-07-23 03:20:00 Banning is simply not good enough Jen.

I insist you take them out and shoot them. Slowly.

472866 2006-07-23 07:05:00 I insist you take them out and shoot them. Slowly. That would be my pleasure! Unfortunately if no one tells us about these spammers we cannot stop him/her from being a parasite on these forums.

*Sparky* - if you still have that email, could you please PM me it so that I can deal to that person.
