| 473022 | 2006-07-24 00:14:00 | After an update to Nortons, the laptop running XP wont boot , not even into Safe Mode. POST is fine then dies when trying to load XP. Can run XP recovery disk, am looking for a couple of suggestions? I am thinking about fixboot from the recovery console, but I see this can cause problems. All ideas welcome |

Don't suppose you are familiar with the usage of Linux liveCDs by any chance? In this situation, I would boot to your drives with the LiveCD and save what data you could, then do a dirty install (install windows directly over top of the existing without formatting first). Without a backup, and doing a dirty install, you do risk losing some/all data. |

| 473024 | 2006-07-24 02:24:00 | I've used Knoppix to network the two, and have backed up everything now. An fresh install is an option, but I'm hoping to make it the last one! Interestingly when I look at a repair/install it does not recognise the partition. Any more suggestions welcomed Ferg |
