Conroe just a stop gap until Quad core CPU's arrive (www.bit-tech.net) Here is another post (forums.bit-tech.net) from the authour of the article above explaining what he meant. | 473512 | 2006-07-26 06:58:00 | I havn't read the article, but the quad core cpu's will only make Conroe obsolete (in the sense that there is no point in buying them) if: The new cpu requires a non-Conroe motherboard The new cpu is nearly the same pricing as Conroe If the quad core used the same motherboard as Conroe, and was more expensive, then I would buy a Conroe, and leave the Quad core as an uprade choice for later. I don't see much point in Quad core for a few years anyway. I mean, games are only just starting to use multi-cores properly. Quad core would be good for servers though. |

Going by your sig, your PC looks pretty good. So who cares? there's always something new. There's always the endless competition. You buy whats around at the time, according to your budget and your needs. Such a fuss......... |

| 473514 | 2006-07-26 22:21:00 | And read this: www.anandtech.com Looks like the cheaper Conroes are VERY good value if you overclock. That's not going to be made obsolete very soon. I read the article you linked to, and it seems that the quad core will go in the Conroe motherboards, which is good news. With your setup cheifnz, I would wait until at least christmas next year before upgrading. By then we should be well into DX10 graphics cards, and nicely revised Intel/AMD offerings. That's when I plan my next upgrade :) |
