473091 2006-07-24 04:50:00 Relation running PC Direct Discovery 580 bought 1997 with Win 95b. At bootup it hung at "Verifying DMI Pool Data". Next day at bootup got blank monitor. Have done a bootup, HD runs, CD drive light flashes, keyboard got 3 lights, no light on floppy, monitor blank with light blinking as on power save. Lifted base lid, CMOS battery dead and replaced it, checked all connections, boards and memory stick. Rebooted, still same blank screen. Cleared CMOS per M/B manual, still same blank screen. Monitor OK only 18 months old, floppy replaced 18 months ago but fitted new as precaution, rebooted same blank screen. M/B is a ESC PSTX-B with Award BIOS, chipset North Bridge Intel Triton 82430TX. Any suggestions? FrankS (257)
473092 2006-07-24 05:21:00 You may have "3 lights" on the keyboard, but unless the CAPS Lock key press toggles the CAPs light on/off then the PC is not even making it past the POST (Power On Self Test) so the problem could be well before anything such as the floppy or monitor comes into the argument.

Can you verify that CAPs lock key toggles the light?

473093 2006-07-24 07:44:00 Should have been clearer, the 3 Keyboard lights only flash on then immediately off, just booted up, cap lock key has no effect, HD sounded rather noisy. Its almost as though the BIOS does'nt exist. FrankS (257)
473094 2006-07-24 08:29:00 The inactivity on the lights suggests that the PC is not even reaching BIOS. In other words the CPU aint even running.

That leaves the field wide open as to the fault, Motherboard, CPU, PSU, et al.

473095 2006-07-24 23:05:00 Thanks godfather, was coming to same conclusion, will have to look at whether with the age it is worthwhile trying to get it repaired if replacements can be found. FrankS (257)

The short answer. No.
Upgrade time.
