| 473587 | 2008-11-23 07:36:00 | I am trying to install Vista Ultimate (64 bit). I have an AMD Athlon 64 processor. Have the hard drive partitioned into C and D drives. XP Home is on the C Drive and want to put Vista onto D Drive. When I put the DVD for Vista into the DVD drive (after disabling Nod32) I get the message Setup cannot run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media. I therefore shut down and reboot with the DVD in the drive and get the message that to boot from the DVD just hit any key. I do that but XP Home still comes up and I go through the cycle again. Should I be doing this in safe mode perhaps ? Is Nod32 interfering because when I reboot it activates again ? Even though I disable Nod32 it may be too late. Misty  |

If you havent , change it save the settings, then leave the DVD in, and press a button again You dont or cant do it in safe mode That message probably means you're trying to install 64 bit windows, from within 32 bit windows, which 64 bit cant do either |

I did a full image first ...then a defrag (don't tell me - it should have been the other way around !). Then, because Vista Ultimate asks for 40 Gig minimum and I only had 38 1/2 Gig on the planned partition I thought I needed to increase the partition. How to do this safely and free ?? PC World Dec 08/Jan 09 had the answer - use Easus free home edition. Worked a treat ! Recommend - easy, even for an old buggar like me ! (don't tell me again - that is when I should have made the image file :horrified ) Then went into BIOS (didn't have to use safe mode). All safely installed. Thanks Speedy and PC World !
