473295 2006-07-25 07:40:00 Agnitum Outpost still has a free version. You can download either from the authors website here (www.agnitum.com) or from MajorGeeks (www.majorgeeks.com) Jen (38)

473297 2006-07-25 08:42:00 Would you use windows firewall alone?

Just interested in the answer...

473298 2006-07-25 08:42:00 ZoneAlarm really is a hunk of resource hogging junk, if you have never used another firewall you may think it is good and not relaise how much it lags your PC.

Get Outpost it is far superior, or Keiro as someone else mentioned. I tested both and Outpost seemed a little better, either is much better than ZA.
Hmm, my ZA is using a whole 2044k. Less than Taskmanager, or my keyboard or nearly everything.
And Outpost - theres a whole heap of MS docs relating to various STOP errors and stuff on MS website...and on various forums.

473299 2006-07-25 10:08:00 Thanks for your helpful suggestions everybody. Pctek is going to call by and have a peek. I'm seriously thinking about dumping it. Winston001 (3612)
473300 2006-07-25 10:29:00 I use and like ZA free but recently spent an hour and a half downloading updates for it only for it tell me that the update is incompatible with Win 98se. (Which is my OS)

I think they don't support 98se anymore but that's OK. I can survive. :D

You are right, I read somewhere that they don't support 98 anymore.

I use an earlier version also, and don't update it. I went back to it after having problems with a newer version.

473302 2006-07-25 16:19:00 In ZA, select

- Firewall, Main tab, set to medium, not high; otherwise problems for sure.

-Program Control, Programs tab, click on the blue "?" for context sensitive help.

473303 2006-07-25 17:16:00 Winston's thread is timely for me, as ZA Free told me today there is an update available.
But I gave it a "Notify me later." in order to have a think...

That's because I went through this at the end of June, when accepting an "update/upgrade"/whatever they called it. The result was a lengthy download of the whole program again - slate wiped clean of all previous settings & intrusions blocked etc.

I understand that's occasionally necessary, but I don't want to do it again only 4 weeks later. The program appears to be working.

Yes, I know I can ignore this, but curiosity - and the knowledge that heaps of people here use it - leads me to ask if someone can tell me what this new download consists of?

Edit: I have version 6.5.722.000
