| 473470 | 2006-07-25 19:57:00 | Hey guys, Building a new system, stuck on the graphics setup. I was thinking three scenarios here: Dual "low" end cards such as 6600GT (maybe Asus Extreme) Single High end card such as a 7800GTX (SLI-able of course for when I win the lotto) Just keep a PCI-e 6600GT for a while longer until prices drop another notch. Damn computer stuff is expensive.... Cheers in advance hamstar |

| 473471 | 2006-07-25 21:20:00 | Is SLI really worth all the fuss and dosh for that matter??? SLI to me is only of real benefit if both cards are abel to run @ x16, none of this x8 rubbish. Having said that most mobo's that have the capability to run a SLI configuration @ the full x16 speed tend to be a bit pricier. That coupled with the price of 2 high-end SLI vid cards makes for one hell of an expensive setup... which you would only most likely have if you're ridiculously rich or have nothng better to do with your money or you're a pro gamer. Personally I don't see the purpose of running SLI, all though the concept is great and performance phenomenal, how may of us would actually feel the need to have a SLI or Crossfire setup at home. | 473472 | 2006-07-25 21:41:00 | How big is your monitor Hamster?....>19', you are wasting money. Dual 66's arent even gonna be as good as 1 78gtx or 79gt. If you can hold off for now G80 comes in the last quarter with DX10. If not, I would stick with just card. Dual Card rigs are for Wide Screen boys running 1920+ res with AA & AF wound right up. |

| 473476 | 2006-07-27 01:32:00 | answer the question then, how big is your monitor? | SolMiester (139) | ||
| 473477 | 2006-07-27 01:39:00 | I'd stick with the PCI-e 6600GT for now, it's excellent value for money, I run one at home and at 1280x1024 for all the games I play without any problems. Unless you're loaded I'd wait and get a single high-end card later once the price comes down, the dual SLI cards are really just for high end gamers who want e-bragging rights. | Nutter (10601) | ||
