473487 2006-07-25 19:18:00 Hey, its been a while.

My computer has some weird quirks.. I really don't know why.. but it does.
Anyway, I have some weird folders that I dont' know what they are for, or what they do.. can some one explain? (WINXP-SP2)

Any help is great thanks.

473488 2006-07-25 20:03:00 OK, the first pic is strange, but I can tell you the second one simply contains configuration for Limewire and housecall (whatever that is). The reason they start with a dot, is probably leftover from linux.

Whereas Windows usually keeps its configuration files folders in their own folder (application data and local settings - which are hidden folders), when a folder/file starts with a dot in linux, it is hidden.

In either OS you can just show the hidden folders by turning it on in the options.

473489 2006-07-25 22:03:00 Ok, well I no longer have limewire or housecall... so I assume they are safe to get rid of...

As for the other one, it seems (but i'm not sure) that everytime I enter safe mode it makes a new folder... or perhaps system restore?

You'll also free up a little of the harddrive resourses too .

Your other folders look like prefetch files to me . . . . or not . . .

473492 2006-07-26 06:41:00 A bit of a google around suggests the multiple Admin folders happens either with the disjoining and rejoining from a domain or the creation of new accounts with the same name so the .001 gets appended to it.

Why have you been going into Safe Mode? Is your computer part of a domain (not a standalone computer), especially Novell?
