473314 2006-07-25 03:40:00 I'm a newbie to buyng a notebook computer and I'm comparing two machines
a 1.46 Ghz Celeron M with 512 RAM and a 1.6 Ghz Duron with 256 RAM. Both the same price. Both with inbuild 802b/gwireless.

I'm not a gamer, mainly an office applications user who also plays DVDs and surfs the net.

I'd like some advice on how these would compare in terms of performance?

Thanks

473315 2006-07-25 04:18:00 Duron? They haven't made Durons for ages now. Its Semprons now. So in that case get the Celeron.
Neither are great but of the two.....

But for what you are intending to do, they should be fine, and you may also appreciate reliability. Look at that aspect and stick with well know brands. i.e. IBM, HP, Dell, Toshisba, Acer, ASUS and avoid lesser known names. Also try get an extended warranty (3 years or more). Laptops have a habit of breaking.
