473165 2006-07-24 15:51:00 Hi, welcom to PressF1. :)

You will find that often the fastest way to solve a problem is to Google it. That's how I found the Symantec solution to your problem. Here it is,_

Don't be put off by the few members of this forum who are against all high profile companies, or software. There are a lot of less argumentative members who are quite happy to use Norton programs. :)

473167 2006-07-24 16:47:00 ccApp . exe is the common hosting application that is used by both Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security .

It calls the different program features in Norton AntiVirus and Norton Internet Security . For example, in Norton AntiVirus, if Auto-Protect and Email Scanning are enabled, then ccApp . exe makes sure that those programs are running .

If ccApp is disabled, then Auto-Protect and Email Scanning will not run .

It is one of the reasons why the "older boys/girls" don't use Norton/Symantec . .

Experience counts for something . . . but those who are new to puters still insist that they get good results from resourse hogging and bloated software . . . a topic which has been pounded into pulp on this and other tech sites .

You can use what you want, but later on when you get a few more grey hairs, you'll see what the old dogs mean .

Actually, Norton's is very good for doing what it does . . . it's just that the sheer amount of malware that it needs to search for and remove or impound is so long that almost any anti-stuff is bloated any more . It's not Norton's fault . . . or any other protection systems either . . . . it's just the diversity of junk that they need to hunt out and kill .

I WOULD, however make sure that there isn't some sort of malware turning off your Auto-Protection and e-mail scanner . . . it's not uncommon to find these things turned off by malevolent code .

473168 2006-07-24 20:08:00 We were all newbees once and I just wish some of the grey haired people referred to by Joe had been about, before I became a baldy from tearing my hair out over faults such as yours. There are plenty of free antivirus apps about that are 99% as good as the big name, big cost, big hog ones.Try the FAQ on this forum and you can then make up your own mind which to use.
Good luck and do not hesitate to come back you will get good advice from the people here who care about others in strife.

Remember that NIS is not just an anti-virus program, it also includes a firewall so if you do go for an alternative you will need an AV and a firewall program.
