1405678 2015-08-01 08:41:00 Problem with a Vista profile so I created another administrator account and copied the broken profile data into it and the new account seems to be OK with a rather important exception.

The new account can't do anything with accounts e.g it can't change its own picture or account type and it can't access any other account to administer it.

Wonder if it is a permissions thing but something isn't right.

Would be good to fix this but maybe another new account needs setting up and starting from scratch?

Can't seem to find an answer by googling.

Any ideas?

1405679 2015-08-01 09:29:00 last time I had a Vista profile problem I found an article that worked great. Much quicker than creating new profiles and transferring data etc, all it takes is a simple ( when you know how :) ) reg edit and you're away laughing. Another time in W7 booted via a CD, loaded the reg hive and edited that way. Thankfully the options in the article were there.

Article support.microsoft.com

If that doesn't work had to do it this way: windows.microsoft.com

1405680 2015-08-01 09:29:00 Nah, too many problems with this one. Starting from scratch with new user.

Reminder to self - don't take any notice of 'answers' describing how to copy profiles!

1405681 2015-08-01 09:59:00 We clashed with timing! I saw that article and thought, sheesh, that looks a bit complicated!

I've got an imgage of C: so will give that regedit a go!

Back later.

1405682 2015-08-01 10:20:00 Decided I will give that a miss as I have got a new profile going now. But will give the regedit a go if I have a next time.

Thanks for that, WT.

How're your win 10 fixes going??!!

Had a win 7 here that gave the "Something Happened" error. A REALLY annoying error msge. Had to change a locale to US then it went OK.

Cheers.
