1405493 2015-07-27 11:03:00 Hi,

I am in the process of helping a relative change ISP's in their shop. They were with Spark ADSL, and have changed to Vodafone VDSL.

The VDSL has been installed, and internet and phone working well on all PC's

The only thing is - the network drives they had shared across all the PC's now no longer work? Red crosses next to them. Double clicking gives an error message that the drive cannot be found.

I didn't think changing a modem would make a difference? There were 4 ethernet cables in the back of the Spark modem - I just took these out and plugged them into the new VDSL modem. All other infrastructure is the same.

Is it just a matter of rebooting all the PC's? Or something more tricky?

Cheers in advance. C

1405494 2015-07-27 21:11:00 Depends on if you have static IP address's on the drives. If they do then the routers IP range from Spark maybe different from the IP range from Vodafone, check this first.

I just took these out and plugged them into the new VDSL modem. All other infrastructure is the same.
This will have the same effect as rebooting the connection since unplugging will disconnect the link to the router, plugging back in will make it look for a new connection.

If the computers are set to obtain automatically, thats exactly what they should do. This will also be the same for any networked printers, as most have a static IP which again will now not be in the new IP range.

1405495 2015-07-27 22:46:00 Depends how they are shared, if they have mapped drive letters to network shares they may need to remap them as the IP address has changed like Wainui mentioned. If they are just navigating to shared folders via homegroup or windows networking nothing should have changed.

To remap If you right click the drives and look at properties it should give a clue as to what was shared, then go find it again on the network and right click - map to network drive. Alternatively you could just edit the properties if you know the new address. To keep the same drive letters you will need to delete the old shortcuts.

If it's not mapped drives maybe just try re sharing the folders.
