1405910 2015-08-05 11:39:00 Probably easier to uninstall 7zip as it does sound like file association, then install Thunderbird and it should all be go.

Get 7zip again and reinstall it if you need it, theres no reason for 7zip to touch self extracting unless you need more control, its self extracting so it can avoid compression utilities.

Cheers,

1405911 2015-08-05 21:29:00 Unfortunately I cannot find 7 Zip - have been to Control Panel/uninstall programmes and can see a heap but nothing that resembles 7zip or even has zip in its name.... Bryden (4161)
1405912 2015-08-06 00:18:00 If I go into Start/Programs in my Win7, I know you are on Win10 or 8, but Classic Shell would give you the ability, you will find that "7 Zip" is actually appearing as 7-Zip and is normally the first Program in the list if you have "Right Clicked - Sort By Name" zqwerty (97)
1405913 2015-08-06 06:51:00 Is 7-zip the self extracting tool they use for TB? Maybe the location it is trying to extract at, hasn't the right permissions to do so? Bit farfetched if we are talking Windows, but maybe permissions has improved?

Try running it as an administrator?

Download 7-Zip, try installing it and the installer if it detects 7-Zip may actually ask to Remove/Uninstall it if it exists.

I think it is, its mentioned on the Mozilla/FF site

Try redownloading from the TB home site linked to in a reply above
It may have been downloaded from a 3rd party site who may have bundled their adware into the download, maybee thats the issue ?

Also, try moving the download somewhere else & then run it,with admin rights : right mouse click : run as admin
