1394530 2015-02-17 20:08:00 I need 3 of them.

So maybe I will get one locally and then get two from the US in separate orders.

I realise that NZ suppliers/retailers need to charge more as they don't buy in such bulk etc but I sort of resent paying $100 over the US price, when the US stores are making money.

That is really 30% more, 10% more I could accept.

1394531 2015-02-17 20:58:00 Your original post was a bit deceiving with the figures. Mentioned $430 From NZ suppliers (my suppliers $419 gst included) The price quoted from the USA was $269 BUT that's USA $$ not NZ, so convert $269 to NZ and its roughly $340NZ.

Since you run a business you can claim back any GST in NZ from a NZ brought location, so remove the GST factor and its only $25 more than what you can get from the USA and not have to worry about customs, getting lost (or if it did easy to track), warranties etc. If you buy it from USA you cant claim any GST unless you get stung at customs.

Your choice of course, its your money. Just hope at sometime in the future there are no problems.

BTW -- Amazon are cheaper than newegg.

1394532 2015-02-17 21:17:00 Ebay is cheaper still, just read the feedback for the supplier first :)

I buy stuff form amazon & ebay occasionally, but I always consider it a gamble and I limit the amount I will risk and the types of devices I'll buy.
Some stuff you just can't find in NZ easily, other stuff is much cheaper from overseas, but claiming for manufacturer issues or shipping damage is a possible headache I am aware of. I would not risk it on a hard drive personally. Maybe for an SSD for a really good deal as they are less prone to physical damage.

Recently as an Example I decided I wanted a decent USB 3.0 powered Hub and after reading some reviews settled on a particular model (Hootoo 7 port hub with 2 charging ports). It cost me $80 from Amazon and took a week to arrive. I could not find it in NZ except on fishponds site but they were out of stock. The most I'll spend on Ebay is about $200 really. Any more is too big a risk for me, Amazon I have a bit more confidence in but the savings are not that great on average.

1394533 2015-02-18 00:21:00 I would not put them through my cottage industry to claim the GST back.

Sorry about the figures I should have quoted NZ$ and US$

But there is no way I would buy ANY tech item from ebay or Amazon, just as I would not buy any from Trademe.
Its just that like to buy from reputable computer suppliers.
