I'm wondering whats the difference between sata and sata 2? i have a Albatron K8M800 Pro Motherboard and want to buy a new hard drive, i'm looking at a 160gig sata2 hdd, is that compatible with my botherboard? the board doesnt specify that it has sata2 it just says it has sata. any help appreciated cheers |

SATA has a max throughput of 1.5Gb/s and SATA II is capable of 3Gb/s If the Mobo says only SATA, then it is only SATA, not SATA II, but SATA II HDDs are compatable with SATA, just means they work at SATA speeds, so yes, you can get the SATA II HDD and it will work... I hope that is no too confusing :) |

You can compare hdd's here: www23.tomshardware.com - Use the dropdowns to select whatever benchmark results you want to see. No harm in buying it though. Sometimes you can even get SATA2 hdd's cheaper. Just buy whatever is most convenient for you. |
