474617 2006-07-31 08:45:00 Ping it again, this time without the www.

eg: ping idg.co.nz

Hmm ... you edited your post after I posted. I see you managed to ping the www.idg.co.nz address from the other computers OK.

The fact you cannot ping using name, suggests the domain name settings are incorrect.

Put this into your browser address bar, hit enter and see what happens:

474619 2006-07-31 08:53:00 Well, how about trying this

www.snapfiles.com

Could be winsock error..

474620 2006-07-31 08:53:00 Sounds like a DNS problem caused by corrupted winsock files
Download and run the winsock fix
www.snapfiles.com

Also might help to post a hijackthis log to see what other things you may have picked up.

and now i think about it, this could be due to the cleanup i did with Ccleaner.... we'll see...

474623 2006-07-31 09:20:00 well, it failed to backup the regisrty, made a very high pitch, loud beeeeeeeeep while repairing, and now it works (after rebooting itself and taking a while to load once i got to the desktop, probably as everything simultaneously tried to update)

thanks guys :D

i will post again if anything crops up

474624 2006-07-31 09:23:00 Next time but a Mac and you won't have these sort of problems.
In fact you probably won't have any problems at all.
