475145 2006-08-01 11:23:00 One of my XP Pro (fully updated) machines won't play mpeg-2 movie files via WMP10 or 11 . No video or sound . MP3's are OK . I have re-installed WMP but to no effect . WMP used to say it didn't have a codec but wouldn't find one when allowed to go to the Internet . But I tried registering a couple of codec suspects and now it doesn't show any error (except for no vid or sound!) .

I have googled for an answer but it is my experience, where codecs are concerned, that everyone seems to waffle and you end up with no concrete help!

Anyone know where I should look? TIA .

475146 2006-08-01 22:02:00 When you say MPEG2 files, do you mean you are trying to play a DVD (or DVD files)? These are encoded as MPEG2, but have some interesting additional characteristics (such as CSS). Erayd (23)
475147 2006-08-02 01:41:00 These are mpeg files produced from my tv tuner and from home movies etc so no CSS etc involved. All these files play fine on my main machine. linw (53)
