474936 2006-07-31 02:32:00 Will a eVGA Geforce 6800 256MB 256-bit DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card SLI handle games like Counter-strike/Day of Defeat Source, World of WarCraft, BattleField 2, ETC the newest good graphic games?

Just wondering before I get those games.

Thanks

474937 2006-07-31 03:14:00 Should do. I have a Leadtek FX 6800LE TDH 128mb card and it handles HL2 and HL2 Episode 1 alright. I have tried Counter-Strike/Day Of Defeat no problems.

474938 2006-07-31 03:25:00 Yeah that card should perform quite well with those games. If you are considering buying it, I would wait a bit to see what the next gen cards are going to be like... this is especially true when you add DX 10 into the equation. The card may be more than capable of running current games but you will also need to think about future games as well. If you haven't bought it yet then consider something else that has been released by nVidia or ATi.

cheers

Erh, that reads like a vanilla model to me, IE: slow core and cheap slow memory, so I would stay clear of it......If it is GT then ok.

You should be able to pick up a later generation card at around the same price.

474941 2006-07-31 05:01:00 Don't get a 6800 Vanilla

Go for a 7600 GT (or a 6800GS if you don't want to pay the extra $30 for the 7600GT)

The 6800 Vanilla performs about the same as a 6600GT, which is probably $150 cheaper or something.

7600GT is very nice.

There are many nvidia cards, but imo, ignore them all except for 7300GT, 7600GT and 7900GT. The rest are just there to confuse you :p

Not sure about the ATI side, I havn't payed much attention to them.

474942 2006-07-31 05:07:00 Don't get a 6800 Vanilla (or any 6800)

Go for a 7600 GT

I second that

474943 2006-07-31 05:10:00 Will a eVGA Geforce 6800 256MB 256-bit DDR PCI Express x16 Video Card SLI ....Btw, it looks like you copied that off a site. Do you mind giving the price of that particular card from that particular website so we know how much you are looking at spending? mejobloggs (264)
474944 2006-07-31 05:14:00 Oh wait, just reread your original post. Do you already have the 6800? It will be able to play all those games, not sure how well though. If you turn the graphics down a bit it should give you a nice and playable fps though. mejobloggs (264)
474945 2006-07-31 14:36:00 i have a 6800 AGP, im pretty sure its vanilla, as it is some random chinese lable, as in, its called Chinese Tech or something...

i play CS source heavily, at a res of 1024x768 with eveyrthing on high, and with tripple buff, 2x AA, and that antristropic filtering, or whatever the heck that is.

i get around 100FPS and higher. and im running a 3000 Athlon AMD 64, 754 Socket with a GIG of DDR 400.

it depends on how smooth you want it. if you want BF2 to run smooth, your gonna want around 2gig of ram. becuase of the huge maps and draw distances.
