474929 2006-07-31 01:41:00 Hi - how do I stop gmail chats being saved to the computer's My Received Files folder? Couldn't find any settings in gmail, gmail help has nothing, gmail user forum has nothing, couldn't find anything by googling.....
Thanks

474931 2006-07-31 01:53:00 There's a setting . . . .

Underneath the line that tells you how much space you are using in your storage area, it a line that allows you to use GMail with or without saving chat .

Click the standard without chat . . . . . line . . . it'll toggle off . You will not save them in the mailbox .

You can also turn off . . . or go off the record in the IM while you are running chat too . That way, none of the current chat lines are saved and cannot be scrolled back when you sign off . . . it makes it easier to say things that cannot be saved . . . except for repeated screenshots, that is!

BTW: When you switch to being off the record, the other party will instantly know it too!

474932 2006-07-31 01:53:00 Thanks Nigel, unfortuantely I think this only deals with saving the chat history on gmails servers .

However, I have just checked to see if CCleaner could do it, and it can - if I specify "My Received Files" under Options/Custom, and then enable the cleaning of Custom Files and Folders on the Cleaner Settings tab, and then set CCleaner to run at each shutdown, it will do the trick .

Thanks for your help though, much appreciated .

474933 2006-07-31 01:55:00 Thanks too, SurferJoe - however, I'm being picky, and want to keep the chats on the gmail servers, my daughter just wants them not to be saved to her laptop! annie (6010)
