2006-08-03 06:36:00 | Well heres a weird one. A friends computer refuses to load the keyboard or mouse yet the post gives no error beeps and Windows loads normally. He brought it around here and it does the same on my keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately, with no keyboard or mouse things get a bit tricky! :) Its a MSI 7081 M/B if that is of any help. The only thing I can think of is the M/B, but I thought Id better check for any other ideas. The fact it gives no Keyboard Error and gets past the post (one Beep) to loading Windows normally, confuses me. :help:

2006-08-03 06:46:00 | Have you checked in the BIOS? It may be setup not to halt on errors, if that is possible? | gkar (5215) | |
2006-08-03 08:16:00 | I'd like to be able to. :) However, when you can't press F1 to enter the BIOS set-up (because the keyboard don't work) it remains a real problem. :)

2006-08-03 08:42:00 | ooops. Been a long day. How long did you leave the battery out? Some sites I've read state for a minimum of 10-30 minutes. Did you also try resetting the CMOS via the pins on the mobo? MSI have a forum which might have a post similar to yours. forum.msi.com.tw 5b

2006-08-03 10:18:00 | A flat CMOS battery will do things like that. When the battery in my old P166 gets low it halts at boot with a "no keyboard" error. A new battery fixes it. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2006-08-03 16:45:00 | Insomnia Alert, Insomnia Alert: Yep, I had checked the Battery Billy thinking along the same lines and its OK (3.07v.) The odd thing is I dont get any error message or extra beeps on post. Anyway, I was sound asleep when I woke thinking, did any lights flash on that keyboard at power on? So, out of bed, on with the kettle, and nooop, no lights flash on keyboard. Now, this is leaving me to conclude that the power to the keyboard and mouse is missing. I wonder if something has shorted in his keyboard or mouse and burned out the 12v or 5v rail on the M/B? Sooo, can anybody tell me if the keyboard & Mouse run on 12v or 5v and what the pin-out for the socket is? Is there any protection in the event of short circuit in a keyboard or mouse lead? Ill do a bit of Googleing anyway whilst enjoying my cuppa and you guys are sleeping.
