475521 2006-08-02 09:57:00 Click on start-run and type msconfig in the space then click OK.
On the startup tab untick those items you do not want to start and click OK.
You will be prompted to reload windows.

475522 2006-08-02 10:21:00 Check out pacs-portal (www.pacs-portal.co.uk) for a list of programs at startup. Very thorough.

Used to be a FAQ about this but can't find it, but pacs portal was linked anyway. Excellent stuff. HTH......m

475524 2006-08-02 11:38:00 Have a look in start, all programs, startup. Anything in that folder will be automatically started on startup. roddy_boy (4115)
475525 2006-08-03 02:00:00 Go here www.dougknox.com and download Doug's little program. Good one to put on the service CD! linw (53)
475526 2006-08-03 03:43:00 Actually you can prevent Windows Messenger from running on startup, through the use of the simple 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows Starts' option box in the preferences tab of Windows Messenger options. Pancake (6359)
475527 2006-08-03 07:37:00 Or get this (www.dougknox.com) from here (http://www.dougknox.com/) and remove messenger altogether. Its buggy.

And use MSN Messenger or the Live version thats just come out.

475528 2006-08-03 08:12:00 If you are using XP you can just stop the services running, and either disable the program or set it to manual netchicken (4843)
