475469 2006-08-02 06:29:00 I don't usually look at Spam but just got one re Software. One of the offers in Macromedia Dreamweaver which I would like to buy for my daughter. Normal price is about $700-$800.

This email offers a registered version 2004 for $69.95. I know that the manuals will not probably come with it but don't think it will be a problem as my daughter very used to the program.

The site, which I have not gone to yet is
http://sfgmy9fbyyyj1aavvva5xsaa.pocketeddm.com

I am very aware of the old adage that if it seems too good to be true it probably is.

What do you think ? Should I have a look at the site ? Would it be safe to do so ?

Ordering would be another thing...

The firm provides no concrete address.
All of the software is OEM, provided without manuals.
The disks come from "Eastern Europe" (where I'm sure they do a nice line in counterfeiting)
The products are sent by international unregistered mail, which is not tracked & " needs no signature."

No, Misty. Not a good idea.

What a dodgy site address.

Why buy Dreamweaver for your daughter? Get her to learn straight code and she will be better off.

475472 2006-08-02 07:12:00 TOTALLY DODGY!!

Any website with that URL should send warnings. If you google the name of the company which is actually OEM-SOFT-STORE, you will find heaps of URLs with different random characters followed by a variety of subdomain names. It appears the different URLs also allow for affiliated selling so that people can get their commission from the company. You will also find accusations of fraud and piracy.

See? It even rhymes. It must be correct.

475475 2006-08-02 10:56:00 It would be debatable whether $70 would be a good deal for Dreamweaver if it were genuine. I had to use it for part of my last job and found it awful to use. Admittedly I'm coming from the perspective of a programmer, not an average user, but I found the following critical problems:

Awful collaboration system - the locking is truly awful and to say it's slow would be like saying the ocean is wet.
No support for revision control systems (Subversion, CVS, etc). These can make a huge difference to manageability and prevent accidental destruction of information.
The WYSIWYG editor produces messy code. Then again, I write XHTML manually and am quite fussy about code clarity.
The library items and templates system is slow and inadequate. I had several problems when using a table layout with library items getting inserted in completely different, wrong places instead of where I placed the library item tags.

This was with Dreamweaver 2004. It's much better than MX (which I had to use earlier in the project) but still hopeless. I know Macromedia would have to pay me to use it rather than the other way around.

475477 2006-08-02 13:19:00 I don't usually look at Spam but...You wanted to pay for pirated software probally infested with spyware/virus.

Look for academic software, much cheaper.
