| 476209 | 2006-08-05 04:43:00 | 2 days ago I purchased a new Epson R320. When I installed to my Desktop PC, which runs Win Me, the printer failed to be recognized. I installed it to my laptop running Win XP and everything went smoothly including the test page, so I therefore assume that the printer is not faulty. So back to the Desktop, and after several uninstalls and re-installs, direct from the CD and through Windows Add New Hardware, I now have the printer being "found" as it is appearing in the Device Manager list in Control Panel/System. I next suspected that maybe Windows had "lost" the USB ports, although they work OK with my scanner and my camera card reader and my USB MIcro Drive. So I deleted them from the Devices list and restarted Windows, which found them all again. The only odd thing I can see at present is that, although the Devices list shows the Epson R230 on EPUSB1:, the properties of the printer itself show EPUSB1: to be an unknown port. I don't think it showed "unknown" with my previous Epson? - but can't be sure. Any suggestions so that I can get this printer to function on my Desktop will be gratefully received. Thanks, Bill P.S. I do also have a Brother Laser installed, but that's on a parallel port. Also I believe I have deleted all references to my previous Epson. |

| 476210 | 2006-08-05 04:56:00 | Did u install the drivers, then reboot then plug the printer in? Not plug the printer in then install the drivers while the printer was still plugged in?? Some printers are pretty fussy, on how u install the drivers, and what you can and cant do, for the printer to work properly. Chuck the printer cd in and install it from there, see what happens. Try another USB cable, just make sure you dont put extensions on it, or make it too long. |

| 476211 | 2006-08-06 00:19:00 | Thanks SG. Tried that sequence of steps, but the installer required that the printer be connected in order to complete the install. Incidentally, the printer is an R230, not an R320 (finger trouble!) So, the printer shows in the Device Manager list on EPUSB1: but still the Properties/Details tab for the printer shows EPUSB1: as an "unknown port" - is this normal? The USB cable seems to be OK as it works on my laptop (as does the printer)and also tested out OK at Harvey Norman. Any relief from my frustration will be gratefully received! Thanks, Bill |

| 476212 | 2006-08-06 03:54:00 | USB installations are always tricky. If you don't do things in the exact order, it doesn't work. You've tried it the right way, according to the instructions and it doesn't work. So uninstall it, reboot the computer and try a different way. It's not unknown for the instructions to be wrong. ;) Then plug the printer in and let Windows detect it and go through its "detected new hardware" thing. It's worth a try. |
