476038 2006-08-07 05:49:00 Yeah mine says the same but also includes Windows 2000, it may be worth a shot.

PM me if you want it.

Cheers

476039 2006-08-07 06:04:00 Thanks for the offer, but I don't think it will work, as I have just reinstalled win98SE on the comp and installed the soundcard using my driver cd. But I still have no sound coming from the soundcard. As far as my ears are concerned, 'the silence is deafening'.
Thus I don't think the problem is with win XP.

I put the soundcard back in my previous system (a PII 350Mz system, also with win 98SE & XP on it) to make sure the card hadn't become fulty, and it works as well as it has always done before.

This problem is making very little sense...

I put the soundcard back in the PII machine only to find that the same problem was now happening on it also (this was the comp it had worked perfectly on before).
Testing the card in dxdiag gave me the following error message:

DirectSound test results: Failure at step 3 (DirectSoundCreate): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)

As this is the same message I was origionally getting on the other computer, there must be something wrong with the soundcard.

Sigh, I guess i'll try to dig out the old ISA vibra 16 from the cupboard somewhere...
