2006-08-06 04:24:00 | In safemode, right-click in a blank area of the desktop and select "properties". Then select "background". Now click on a different one of the backgrounds and select "Apply" Restart and let us know what happens.

2006-08-06 09:45:00 | Ok this has gone weird ! I right clicked on desktop, selected a pattern then applied. Saw it on the screen, re-booted then got a n active desktop error message. Tried to click ok but it wouldn't let me. So i changed the screen res to what i normally use, clicked ok and my old wallpaper returned, the one i only usually see when i re-boot and shut down. The thing is i can only change the wallpaper if i twiddle with the screen display in properties, stretch, tile and center modes. Unfortunately I still can't access my C drive cos I'm still getting the same ActiveX error message. | ForeverProvence (10914) | |
2006-08-06 10:07:00 | I spoke too soon, after re-booting i'm back to square one with no wallpaper and no access to C drive. | ForeverProvence (10914) | |
2006-08-06 10:36:00 | Download Spybot (www.spybot.info) and the detection updates. And install both then scan. See what this picks up, remove whatever comes up. Then see if active desktop and the wallpaper works.

2006-08-06 12:07:00 | Sorry got it all wrong, ran SpyBot again and 99 probs were discovered. Fixed them and my wallpaper is now restored so thanks for the advice. Still can't access C drive though. | ForeverProvence (10914) | |
2006-08-06 13:03:00 | Now you have Spybot installed, use the program to it's full potential. 1. Open Spybot. 2. Select TOOLS, click ACTIVE X. If necessary, click SHOW ME MORE INFORMATION. Read this information and understand it. 3. Click on each entry and read the complete description of each, paying special attention to CLASSIFICATION. 4. If Classification is not LEGITIMATE, click REMOVE. Reboot and try to access your c drive again.
