476666 2006-08-07 01:19:00 I'd appreciate some feedback on what others see on their restore point (RP) files. I have 2.33GB allocated and was wondering why I was only getting one RP till I saw that the RP had 1253 files and took up 1.9GB! So I turned off restores and re-enabled them and got a new RP with 5 files and 41.5MB. Aha, I says, that's more like it! So this morning I check again. Now I have another RP but it has 709 files and is 1.1GB. Here we go again.

Anyone care to give me feedback? TIA.

476670 2006-08-07 02:07:00 Well that's strange - I don't have a C:\System Volume Information folder or anything else with System Volume. And I definitely have system restore operating. FoxyMX (5)

Check you have your hidden files & folders shown , also unhide protected operating system files, under folder options.

476672 2006-08-07 04:49:00 Just remember that System Restore is also called "Virus Restore" and "Trojan Restore" too.......I turned mine off years ago and never needed it yet. ...I DO, however have a full-install version of XP at my call.

BTW: You always have the "Restart In Last Known Good Configuration" in Safe Mode too. This will keep you outta the pickle better than a whole restore program running all the time, sucking up harddrive space and being infected.

Thanks snoopy, it was the protected operating system files that I had to unhide . The others were already as suggested .

Yikes!! I have 6412 files in 209 folders using 2 . 01GB of space .

Oh well, system restore has saved my bacon a few times so I'll just have to hide the protected operating system files again and forget they are there .

476675 2006-08-07 08:11:00 I'm of 2 minds about System Restore. Good idea. Bad design.
I don't tell customers not to use it, it can be handy for the odd driver stuff-up. But I much prefer Ghost for my own system.
System Restore has far too much bloat for my liking.
