476586 2006-08-06 20:59:00 ok guys plz help me! I need it badly. 1st off I'm a fool. I was switching all my hardware to the newcase i got and I didnt even think. I installed everything but didnt change the power supply which was a higher wattage than my current one. So obviously bad news. Now my comp will boot but at the windows screen with the little bar with the 3 blue squares the zip past indicating its loading, well right there it freezes. My friend said reinstall windows, so i did. Nothing same place, still freezes. So he said it's prolly a specific piece of hardware creating the problem. If so how do i figure out which one? Some1 PLZ HELP ME!!!!!! I'm on my girlfriends notebook. I'll only have this comp for about 10 more hours till she gets off work. PLZ HELP ME!!!!!!!! I beg ne1 and every1. Thank ne1 who helps.

Sincerely TJ

So are you using the new PSU now?

When you reinstalled, did you do a fresh format and install or did you overwrite it?
Do a fresh format and install.

476589 2006-08-06 23:08:00 Are the only hardware changes the case and the power supply? You transferred everything else, ie motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc from the old case into a new case? A higher wattage PSU shouldn't cause problems .

Check that you have seated everything correctly and have all the plugs in the right places .

476590 2006-08-07 08:51:00 I double checked everything and it is all hooked up correctly. I'm using my original PSU, instead of the one that came with the case. Speck wise not too sure what exactly you mean, sorry only know so much. I have Windows XP Home Edition. Old emachines MOBO worth about $12 on any wibsite I find it on. FSB 400. PSU is 300Watt. Western Digital HD. Not sure exact name of MOBO, sorry. Um don't know what other info to give. I appreciate all the help so far guys and or gals. Thank you, I hope this helps. Actually come to think of it, I believe one of my MOBO screws is missing I think I might only have 6/7 would this effect it. Otherwise all I know is that i booted it with a higher PSU and go figure something went wrong. I hope this info helps, I just don't know what to do. I'm lost without my comp plus my xbox 360 is dead. I just put $200.00 into this comp, I'm broke now. Plz ne1 and every1 do your best to help and once again Thank all of you so much for your responses so far.

Sincerely TJ

476591 2006-08-07 09:02:00 pctek I'm not sure what you mean by fresh format? I'll run you through it. I booted my comp put the disk in, which I should prolly mention is a Emachines recovery disk not strickly just Windows XP HE. It asked would you like to reinstall Windows XP HE below that it asked or install for command mode(perhaps not the exact phrase but i hope you get the just of it). I selected reinstall windows XP HE. Says warning all info not backed up will be lost i said ok and it asked r u sure and i typed y for yes. Then Norton Ghost comes up and runs through some process which takes about 10 minutes, after that it says plz remove the disk and i think it says the comp will reboot. It reboots and freezes at the same spot. Hope the details help. I'm trying to remember all the details and be honest, trust me I feel ignorant and foolish asking all of this but I truly appreciate the help. McCloudX13 (10922)
476592 2006-08-07 10:54:00 It seems like I just need a clean reinstall, or maybe repair install? SHould i buy or barrow a Windows disk to reinstall my OS???? I'm beyond lost, I just want my comp running again. McCloudX13 (10922)
476593 2006-08-07 11:46:00 Missing motherboard screw is nothing to worry about.

Sorry I can't be more help - it's really difficult to diagnose. Not sure why Norton Ghost is running - do you not have an original disk for Windows?

A missing motherboard screw is something to worry about if it happens to be hiding between the case and the motherboard.
