476676 2006-08-08 10:14:00 How many restore points do you have Foxy? I suspect a lot by the folder count .

Mine now has two RPs for 1 . 8GB - just seems to keep adding files to older RP folders . .

Yea, I know about virus stores etc but for the right hiccups they can save a hell of a lot of hassle . Only used them a very few times, however .

476677 2006-08-08 11:12:00 I'm of 2 minds about System Restore. Good idea. Bad design.
I don't tell customers not to use it, it can be handy for the odd driver stuff-up. But I much prefer Ghost for my own system.
System Restore has far too much bloat for my liking.

I do not use Sys restore but I have been using Ghost to image one 200 Gig hard drive to another. Both drives are Seagate SATA2.

I used Ghost 2003 to image the boot drive C:\ to D:\ and elected to copy one drive to another. C and D had one partition each.

Finished up with two partitions on drive D:

Then I could not boot the computer from the normal SATA master.

I then reformatted the C: drive and reinstalled.

I had, of course, copied info to my 160 gig USB external drive and also CDs and DVDs.

Beginning to wonder about Ghost.

At least I am back in business.

A while back someone more knowledgeable than I told us that Restore Points are cumulative . Each new RP . being added on to the previous one .

An error in todays Restore Point will be included in tomorrows, next weeks, etc . :groan:

They go back to June 15 but whether they will work that far back is another matter. I probably ought to clear them for a fresh start.

476680 2006-08-09 03:42:00 Pretty weird as I only ever have one or two! Must do some study and try to get to the bottom of this. linw (53)
476681 2006-08-09 05:33:00 OK, I think I have found the culprit . If you use free ZA and system restore you also should be aware of this .

"Zone Alarm version 6 . 5 has a bug that creates very large . rdb files within the system . These . rdb files are monitored by System Restore and thus end up in the restore points located in the System Volume Information folder, along with other locations on the system . The best advice is to revert to an earlier version of Zone Alarm . Then disable System Restore which will purge all existing restore points, then turn it back on . For more information on this subject please visit the Zone Labs User Forum" .

That's what is happening to me . Every few min another 1 . 6MB rdb file gets added to the restore folders . No wonder I have a problem!

Pretty poor that Zonelabs can't/won't fix it . Probably bugged on purpose so you'll buy the pay version!

Now to hunt out an older version!
