476750 2006-08-07 03:29:00 Alright i have been recently haveing a problem with Itunes running my CPU at 100% when i am ripping Cd's into itunes
I jsut redid my computer and got my Windows XP Corp 2002 running up to standards, It was an older version so i had to install SP1 and SP2 and many more updates as you can guess
I ran my Avg free and Spybot search and destroy and Ad-aware se and they picked up a few minor things but even after that my cpu runs High

i am currently Running a P4 2.4Ghz 384 Ram i believe its Pc3200
My board is a Asus P4SP-MX
My CPU speed is set at 2400Mhz ( what is default) and 2 days ago i got a Errror about my CPU hanging at the incorrect speed
I doubt you need my Graphics card type or my sound card
but there a Gforce fx 5200 256 and a soundblaster live 8 even though the drivers are not present( the card really has never worked 100%)

476751 2006-08-07 04:25:00 My best guess is your CD-Rom(CDwriter/combo,dvd writer) is slaved off you primary ide controller, this cases much higher CPU usage when ripping music or even DVD's etc. I ahave seen this at least 4 or 5 times, however does not mean this can be the only cause by any stretch. 476752 2006-08-08 03:55:00 Well i built my computer i usally run 2 HD's so my Dvdrom is what i am burning with and i have Cd Rw burner as well but there on same IDE cabel and my one HD is on the other IDE strip
Also i noticed when i run like itunes radio it jumps up to 100% i did some research and well i found that its common for this to happen i just want to know i dont want to burn my processer up for burning for 3-4 hours at a time
i dont want to take any risks

476753 2006-08-08 04:29:00 forgive me if im wrong, but shouldnt it run at %100 when ripping CD's? at least thats whats happend to me on 3 computers i have used  MAC_H8ER (5897)
476754 2006-08-09 00:22:00 Well it may but For one until i redid my computer i never hit 100%,
and even with ripping i never did
I am more Concerned with the fact that its slowing down things it never did
My music is only uploading at low rate 1.2kbs and all or even less than one and usally is ALOT higer that that when i did it before i reinstalled on a new HD and all its Really weird i usally dont have this problem
and my CPU keeps hanging with is awkward as well that never happend
Could my CPU be going bad ?? not really sure

476755 2006-08-09 00:53:00 Ripping music is easy, it's encoding it that takes up the processing power. While ripping music I would expect it to consume as much of the processor as possible. High CPU consumption is a good sign that it's the CPU and not something such as memory which is the bottleneck for encoding music on your machine, meaning that you're getting the maximum possible encoding speed your processor can handle.

If iTunes seems to be ripping music unusually slowly, you may want to select a different audio codec to encode to (if you can with iTunes) or use a different ripping program. If iTunes is working fine but the rest of the system slows down, you can blame the Windows scheduler.
