477395 2006-08-09 09:01:00 I wouldnt post your email here, if I were u.

Unless u want to get spammed to death.

You most probably have to copy all the cds to the hard drive. Then add them back to a DVD with something like Nero Burning Rom.

477397 2006-08-10 04:40:00 You will probably have to regard the DVD as a backup of the CDs, from which you could replace any damaged CDs. The installer is looking for the actual CD "labels", which show up with the CD icon in "My Computer" when the CD is loaded.

With floppy sets, there was usually a file on each floppy called, e.g., "DISK2" so the installer would know that you had put in the next one. If you were installing from a single hard disk directory you had to make sure those files were present. Other installers were fussier and required the actual floppy label to carry on. You might have this sort. Some were even smarter ... they required a disk label which contained some "illegal" characters which standard software couldn't create, to make piracy harder. ;)

There may be a way to create this: the disk label is actually just an invisible directory entry with special attributes. But I doubt if there's a way to have multiple ones. The only label on your DVD will be the DVD's one.

Have a look at a directory of one of your CDs. If it does have a file called "DISKx", you might be lucky, and could try again. This time copy all the CDs into one big directory and write that to the DVD. The installer doesn't expect to change directories (from CD1 to CD2 ... etc) ... it's expecting different disks in succession in one drive.

477399 2006-08-10 23:59:00 "DiISKx" means of course "DISK1", "DISK2",etc, or the form of the exact name called for by the installer. :D

You could try just copying the contents of all the CDs into one directory and making a DVD from it. The installer may just look for files as they are needed, and if they are not found, ask for the appropriate CD. Otherwisze refer to my first paragraph. ;)

477400 2006-08-11 02:07:00 If the main setup file is an .msi file, then you can use a tool called Orca to edit the .msi file as such and change the media labels to point to the first CD instead of looking for CD2 etc.

There are a few sites around that deal with CD2DVD conversion for games and I have done a few, but haven't found any similar things for apps.

477401 2006-08-11 03:43:00 autechre, .MSI is not here..i think the installer is protected by installanywhere(Zero G) not the .MSI...

here is the CD label: (from CD1-CD6)
URSC06_INSTALL <--disc1
URSC06_ARTICLE <--disc2
URSC06_IMAGE <--disc3
URSC06_MEDIA1 <--disc4
URSC06_MEDIA2 <--disc5
URSC06_MEDIA3 <--disc6

i tried to copy all files from disc1-disc6 in 1 directory and burn it,
if i install it it will copy some files, then after 5mins it will ask to insert URSC06_ARTICLE..im wondering why it ask for URSC06_ARTICLE, all files are in 1 folder..

Graham L, what do u mean by "DISCx" what will i put in the DVD label?

tnx you all for the help.. =) hope i can backup my britannica soon..

477402 2006-08-11 04:54:00 As I said, you have actually backed it up. :D Knowing those labels which are those starting "URSC06-" rather than what I assumed from your report of the error: "DISKx", you could replace any damaged CD. You would have to give the CD writing programme the appropriate label to give each new CD.

You could try making six short or empty files (of any sort... txt is easiest) using those labels as the filenames (repeated Save As, changing the name each time), and putting them in that big directory. The installer might be fooled ... I don't know. (You should be able to test without burning another DVD ... just treat that big hard disk directory as if it's a loaded DVD.)
