| 477176 | 2006-08-08 11:05:00 | Hello, I would like the computer to auto start in the morning to start downloading somethings. (So I don't have to get up) :D . Is there anyway to get the computer to start up on its own? Thanks in advance, ~Matt :-) |

| 477177 | 2006-08-08 11:10:00 | Hi. Some motherboards have an auto on function in the BIOS, I know that mine does, but it is only a once time (you will need to set it each time you want it to turn on (and I am not sure about other boards)) have a look in you mobo manual and see if there is anything about it. (what is the mobo?) |

BUT, then, if there is no option in the BIOS, then no, you cant make it turn on at a certain time by itself . And if you're on ADSL, it should be OK, but then how are you going to make it go to a site and download whatever? |

I've heard about some viruses that can turn on the computer at like 2am and then dial into overseas toll numbers - would they just be programming the bios? Anyway thanks for your speedy reply. Bed now. Bye. ~Matt :-) |

| 477180 | 2006-08-08 11:21:00 | Nope I doubt viruses can turn a computer on if its off. Most viruses or whatever that attack the BIOS would either kill the BIOS completely. It wouldnt go end of story, the BIOS would have to be replaced. It would be totally knackered. Unless maybe u had 2 BIOS'es like some Gigabyte mobos, or u have an ASUS mobo (or some other brands) that supports that BIOS thing. Cant remember what its called. |

| 477181 | 2006-08-08 11:21:00 | uTorrent has a scheduler function in it, this works a treat  EDIT: I am not sure what it will say in the manual, but if anything it will say something like auto turn on or that effect, try having a look in the BIOS to see... |

| 477182 | 2006-08-08 11:27:00 | the other way to make it wake up is to use one of the wake on features. ie wake on ring and set up something to ring it. the easiest is proberly wake on power failure and use a power timer to power up the pc at a set time. | tweak'e (69) | ||
| 477183 | 2006-08-08 11:43:00 | It may be a good idea to tell people which motherboard you have and if you are on dialup or ADSL. In the BIOS you can set the computer to wake on ring or wake on lan. Why not leave the computer on 24/7 like I do and schedule events? I assume you leave the computer connected to power overnight anyway as if you do not there will be no way it will turn on as such. Wake on ring will turn the computer on if on standby. This assumes you or some other person phones your number. I guess you could use a cellphone parked alongside your bed to phone your landline number. How you would get a download to start after that I am not sure unless it it is in task manager or a scheduled event. |
