| 477090 | 2006-08-08 08:51:00 | Evening All. I am trying to establish a network between my laptop and desktop (both on Xp Pro)via a D- Link router. I keep getting an error message that 'the path is not valid'. Can anyone advise of a good website resource that may help me pin point the problem?? Talk about frustrating when its supposed to be oh so easy on Xp. Cheers, Grant |

I'm have a quick look at 'how stuff works' in the hope that i might learn a little more. Strangely enough I have a book called 'Windows Xp inside and out....all 1242 pages and I just get more confused...lol |

| 477093 | 2006-08-08 10:03:00 | There are HEAPS of web sites on networking. Try google with a couple of relevant words. Couple of things, if you could ping once, the basics must be there. But you need to check everything again. Check that both firewalls have a trusted zone that encompasses the LAN range of IP nos. This is essential. Where are the network cards getting their IP addresses from? DHCP from the router or static? Type 'ipconfig /all' from the DOS prompt on both machines. What do you get? Check the services and set only one (desktop) to be the 'Computer Browser'. Check both are in the same workgroup. Try these for starters. |
